Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda apply the East African Community Common External Tariff and the EAC technical regulations that go with it, so a specification cleared for one is a strong indication for the others. South Africa, Mozambique and Madagascar sit in SADC and are quoted on their own terms. Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia and Djibouti apply national tariffs. Kenya operates KEBS pre-export verification of conformity, and a certificate cannot be issued after the goods have sailed — which is the single most common and most expensive mistake on this lane.

Direct and short. Mombasa and Dar es Salaam are the main gateways, with Djibouti and Berbera serving the Horn and Port Sudan the Red Sea. Transit is confirmed at quotation because Gulf routing changes.
